Before the show began, the audience was asked by an MC or member of the band to kneel in reverence and respect for those who were to hang themselves—and it was at this point that a number of people dropped from the light scaffolding set up among the audience floor in unison—some died quietly, necks completely snapped, a few peculiarly resilient ones would gag and choke and claw the air while the audience would applaud, not for the spectacle but for the determination and courage and force of will it took to actually go through with the act like that—we were all headed there anyway—we were applauding their quicker wisdom.
